More meerkat mayhem Sept 2010
The meerkats have been causing mischief as always over the last few months! There were some meerkat wars as the Bushman village crew and Frankie, Stein and George came together. Thankfully everyone was ok but now Stein and George have headed off into the sunset, last seen frolicking up near the waterhole.
Tessa - Sept 10
Tessa and Sabu are still best friends and were enjoying their runs early in the mornings with Carol when she went jogging. Although Carol has left we will make sure they get taken out regularly again.
Sylvie & Lily
Sylvie is causing us some serious headaches; because she comes and goes out of the volunteer camp as she pleases!
We fenced the camp with jackal proof fencing to keep her in, but she is like the phantom Duiker or Houdini and still managesto escape!
Our main worry is that a predator may catch her during these nightly wanders but hopefully she will stay lucky.
When we have sorted out the jackal proof fencing around the whole of the volunteer camp we will let Lily out of her current enclosure to roam freely around the whole camp. At the moment she spends her time in with the many rabbits and is one of our most beautiful animals.
Donkey - Aug 2010
Donkey is now part of the donkey gang and can be found everyday walking the border fence. Well she's not yet big enough to drive the cart but she does like to wander behind the others who are doing it!

Katya - May 2010
Katya is still living down at the Bushman village but also spends a lot of his time up at the new horse kraal on the farm, since a group of other horses have now been brought here.
Frank, Stein and George - May 2010
The best-laid plans ... when you’re dealing with meerkats - it’s wise to be flexible! The move to their new quarters took place successfully and they were happy about being BIG meerkats and FREE. But then they decided to be really free and Stein and George have gone off to do their own thing!
They are still sighted regularly as the new colony is quite near the waterhole where the leopard cubs go for their daily walk, and food is taken to them every couple of days.
Frank seems to be the most interested in human company. Every few days he and Violet, both of them raised in the old rabbit enclosure, appear round the volunteer area on the farm. Their antics are endlessly amusing , except when they try to get in with the rabbits!
One day recently Frank decided that the grass outside the kitchen is his, and tail held straight up, he took a fast run at the geese who were peacefully sleeping there. With a great squawking, they fled. Half an hour later, he did the same to the four peacocks.
He then allowed himself to be caught and curled up for a snuggle! He particularly likes being stroked under the chin. His love bites tend to be a bit painful, however, as his needle-sharp teeth sink in!

Sylvie - May 2010
Sylvie is still happily enjoying life on the farm and hasn’t yet got out of the habit of trying to steal food from the volunteers even though the goats are no longer there to teach her these bad habits!

Donkey - May 2010
Donkey has some new friends and finally some company of her own kind! We have brought in a group of donkeys who we are training to lead a Donkey Cart which will carry our volunteers, supervised by Bushman worker Soloman, around the border fence each day.

Baby Kudu - March 2010
Baby kudu is growing up and at night time is now allowed to stay in the chicken pen with all the other animals.
Frankie, Stein and George - March 2010
It’s an exciting time for our 3 baby meerkats as they are now old enough to be released into the wild!
